The Year 6 nine a side squad experienced mixed fortunes in their opening two league games of the season. A strong team performance saw the boys win their first game against New Silksworth 7-2 courtesy of hat tricks from Jack and Riley and a goal from Matthew. Buoyed by this result the squad travelled to Castletown and started really well against a good side only for poor finishing and defending to let the team down as it found itself 3-0 down by half time. Castletown scored a further two goals to extend the lead to 5-0 before goals from Jack and Riley gave the game a more respectable score line as the game finished 5-2 in Castletown’s favour.

The year 5/6 seven a side squad began its defence of the Alan Grimes Trophy at Southwick Community Primary School on Wednesday and progressed to the semi-final stage for the third consecutive season thanks to two excellent team performances. Two goals from Kyle (including a tremendous volley) and a goal from Riley gave the squad a very good 3-0 over a strong Farringdon side and two goals from Riley in a 2-0 win over Southwick confirmed the squad’s passage to the next round. The boys were back in league action the following night when another Riley hat-trick added to goals from Matthew, Kyle and Jack saw the squad win 6-0 against Academy 360. This was followed by a 4-0 victory over Richard Avenue thanks to another two goals from Riley, a header from Jack and a great strike from John. The two wins give the squad 10 points from the opening four games and represents a strong start to the seven a side league season. Special mention must be given to keeper Vinny and defenders Harry and Nathan for helping the side secure four clean sheets in four games this week. Well done to the whole squad.
