Derwent Hill Update
Wow, what an amazing day.
Not only did we climb up Castle Crag, but we ventured into the woods, explored an over 100 year old cave, played several games of 'Pooh Sticks' and rock climbed a giant boulder. An amazing walk up Kitten and Catbells this afternoon. We worked so well as a team and enjoyed the amazing views at the top of the summit. All in a days work!
Group One began yesterday canoeing on Derwent Water. The weather was very mixed. We had sun on the lake but above the mountains around us we could see it was snowing which was spectacular to look at. We rowed out to One Tree Island where we stopped to have hot chocolate. We had some competitions where we had to jump up and down in the boat whilst singing at the top of our voices. It was a good laugh and only Fletcher fell in whilst trying to score a point for his team by putting a hoop over the jetty post. He got a shock as the water was freezing but took it in good fun as he bobbed up and down in the water. After lunch we went gorge walking. We had to work in two teams to work our way up the gorge, helping our team mates as we went. We had the chance to sit under a waterfall, crawl under fallen trees through the water and had the opportunity to have a splash around in a pool when we reached the point in the gorge where we had to get out. Everyone was soaking wet but it was brilliant fun.
After our delicious dinner, we were split into groups to take part in a carousel of team activities involving hoops, guttering, balls, stopwatches, cones and bamboo canes. We had to work as teams to complete the activities and it was a lot of fun.
It was such a long day that everyone was in bed by 10pm and asleep by 10.30pm to get us ready for our last full day of activities. It has been a brilliant week so far.
