The Year 5/6 school football squad have enjoyed a promising start to the new football season. At 9 a side, the squad have played two games (both away from home) against Castletown and Bernard Gilpin. With Year 5 boys making up 50% of this season’s squad, playing against boys a year older and experiencing 9 a side football for the first time, this format is going to prove to be a challenge for the squad this season. They showed great spirit in both games however before slipping to a 0-3 defeat at Castletown and falling to a 2-5 defeat away to Bernard Gilpin having battled back to 2-2 from 0-2 down thanks to two goals from Kairon.

At 7 a side the boys have really excelled with the players more familiar and better suited to the smaller format of the game. The first round of league games saw the boys draw 1-1 against both Castletown and St Mary’s before beating Barnes 4-0. The following week, the squad repeated its fine form with victories over Farringdon (2-0), New Silksworth (1-0) and Hill View (2-0). The boys also qualified for the semi-finals of the Alan Grimes County Cup when they finished top of their qualifying group with victories over Southwick (2-1), Diamond Hall (5-0), New Silksworth (12-0) and East Boldon (2-0). The squad have been a pleasure to watch and Mr Lindstedt has been very proud of their performances in the first half of the season. Well done boys!
