As part of our local history topic, in which we are learning about Shipbuilding in Sunderland, Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Sunderland Maritime Heritage and Trinity Church. During our time at the Maritime Museum the children had to opportunity to explore artefacts and tools relating to Sunderland’s history of shipbuilding, there was even a 1:10 scale model of an 18th century gun ship, HMS Venerable, which tells the story of Sunderland sailor Jack Crawford.

We had a wonderful tour of the Trinity Church and learned all its history. We also completed a workshop where we discovered which materials would be the best to make our own memorial.

Thank you so much to all the staff and volunteers who made our day so interesting.
